S2 E11 - The Fox and his Tail

Have you seen a fox before? Foxes are usually the color “orange.” And if you look at the fox’s tail, you can see it has a little white on the end of the tail. There’s a story about why foxes have this little bit of white on the tail. Let’s start the story. 

The Fox and his Tail 

Once, there was a woman who had a lot of farm animals. She was a farmer. She had sheep, goats, and cows. So, she wanted to find someone to help her take care of the sheep, the goats, and the cows. She left her farm and started to walk to the town. On the road, she saw a big bear. 

“Where are you going?” said the bear.

“I’m going to town. I have sheep, goats, and cows. So, I need to find someone to work for me,” she said.

“Well, how about me? I can work for you,” the bear said.

“Hey, why not?” the woman said. “But you have to know something very important. You have to know what to say to the sheep, goats, and cows. So, what do you say?”

“Growl! Growl!” the bear said.

“Oh no! That’s not right. The sheep, goats, and cows will not listen to you,” the woman said. 

So, she kept walking to town. Farther down the road, the woman saw a wolf. 

“Hey, where are you going?” said the wolf.

“I’m going to town. I’m looking for someone to take care of my sheep, goats, and cows,” she said. 

“I can do that,” the wolf said. “What about me?”

“Sure, why not?” the woman said. “But you have to know what to say to the animals. What do you say?”

“Owooo! Owooo!” the wolf said.

“No, no, that’s not right! The sheep, goats, and cows will not listen to you,” the woman said. 

She walked down the road a little while longer. Then she came across a fox.

“Where are you going?” asked the fox.

“Oh, I’m going to the town. I have sheep, goats, and cows. I need help so I’m looking for someone to work for me,” the woman said.

“Well, how about me? I can do it,” said the fox.

“Ok, why not? But do you know what to say to the animals? Let me hear it,” she said.

“Hey sheep, hey goats, hey cows,” the fox said.

“Hey, that’s not bad. I think you can do it,” the woman said. 

So, she and the fox went back to the farm together. 

The next day, the fox ate all of the sheep. The day after, the fox ate all of the goats. The following day, the fox ate all of the cows.

The woman was busy in her kitchen making butter. To make butter, you mix milk and cream together for a long time.

Then the woman went out to the field to see the sheep, goats, and cows. But she didn’t see any animals. 

She said, “where are my animals?” 

She didn’t see the fox anywhere. That’s because the fox was in her kitchen! When the woman went into her kitchen, she saw the fox eating the cream! The woman was so angry. The fox saw the woman and started to run away. 

The woman scooped up some cream with a spoon. She threw the bit of cream at the fox. The little bit of white cream fell on the fox’s tail. And that is why the fox has a little bit of white on the end of his tail.
