The Lion and the Mouse
A small mouse walks in the forest. It is night. The forest is dark. The mouse cannot see well. She steps on something soft. It feels like hair. It feels like animal hair. It is a lion. She jumps up. The lion wakes up. The lion is angry. He holds the mouse. He does not let the mouse go. The lion says, “Mouse, you woke me up!” The mouse says, “I am sorry to wake you up! I did not see you. Please let me go!” The lion says, “Why should I let you go?” The mouse says, “Please let me go! I will help you later.” The lion says, “How can a mouse help a lion?” The mouse says, “I do not know, but I will help you later!” The lion is kind to the mouse. He lets the mouse go. Then the lion goes to sleep again. The next day, the lion walks in the forest. The sun is high in the sky. The birds sing songs in the trees. The lion is happy. Then the lion stops. He cannot move. He feels a net around him. The net holds the lion down. The net does not let the lion go. The lion says, “Oh no, this is a hunter’s net. A hunter wants to take me away.” The lion lets out a big roar. (roar) The roar is so big. The leaves on the trees shake. The birds in the trees jump up. The mouse hears the roar. She says, “I hear the lion!” Maybe the lion needs my help. But what can the small mouse do? How can the small mouse help? She goes to the lion. She sees the net. Aha! She bites the net. She bites the net and makes a hole. The lion goes through the hole. He goes out of the net. He can walk in the forest again. The small mouse says, “Lion, even a small mouse can help!” The lion says, “yes, thank you for your help!” The end.
In this story, the lion is big and the mouse is small. The lion is kind to the mouse. And even a small mouse can return kindness.
