The Swan and the Raven
Ravens and swans are birds. But they are different birds. The raven lives in the forests and fields. The swan lives on the lake. The raven likes to fly from the forest to the lake. One day, the raven flies to the lake. It is a hot day. The raven sees the swan on the lake. The raven says, “I want to be like the swan. I want to swim in the water. The air is cool on the water.” The raven flies to the lake. He goes into the water. But he cannot swim. He says, “Help me!” Then the swan hears the raven. The swan swims to the raven. He helps the raven. The raven gets out of the water. The raven says, “Thank you, swan! Thank you for helping me.” The swan says, “Raven, what are you doing?” The raven says, “Swan, I want to swim like you.” The swan says, “Yes, I like to swim. It’s fun to swim. But I want to fly fast like you. I want to fly into the trees like you.” The raven says, “Yes, I fly fast. I fly around and around. I fly upside down.” The raven remembers his home. He says, “I can fly high into the trees. I can sit on a tree branch. The air under the trees is cool.” The raven flies into the sky. He flies home to the forest. He is happy again.
The raven wants to swim in the water. The swan wants to fly fast like the raven. As the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side.
