Friends and the Fortune
Two boys are walking to the town. It’s a beautiful day. The sun is out, and there are no clouds in the sky. The boys walk down the road together. They are good friends. One boy tells a joke. He says, “What do you call a sheep with no head and no legs?” The other boy says, “I don’t know, what?” His friend says, “A cloud!” They walk and laugh together. Then one of the boys sees something on the road. He says to his friend, “Look! I see a red bag on the road.” The sun shines on the red bag. The bag is a beautiful red color. The boy picks up the red bag. He looks inside the bag. He says, “Look! There is money in this bag!” He opens the bag and the money falls into his hand. It looks like a lot of money. The friend says, “Wow! We are so lucky to find this money!” The boy quickly puts the money back into the bag. He says, “Why do you say we are lucky? I found the bag. It is mine.” The friend says, “But we are walking together. We walk together and we found the bag together.” The boy says, “No, the bag is mine!” Then the friends hear a voice. They hear a man say, “Stop!” They see the man coming on the road. He is not alone. A crowd of many people is coming on the road. The man says, “Someone took my money! That must be you!” The man points at the friends. The boy says to his friend, “They think we took the money from the man! What can we do?” The friend says, “You said the bag is yours! So you took the money. Not ‘we’!” The end.
In this story, two friends walk together. One friend will not share his fortune. So, when misfortune comes, he faces it alone.
